Fort Margherita

Description

Charles Brooke built this fort on a hill in 1879 to protect Kuching from pirates’ attacks. The architecture of the building took inspiration from an English castle with its high walls and watch towers, and stands majestically next to the Sarawak River. It has since been converted into a gallery that houses a wide range of memorabilia from Brooke’s time.
